Creamy Hot Cocoa
This creamy hot chocolate
makes a warm welcome
after a day on the slopes
or a skating party.
Adding cool cream to the mugs
of steaming hot cocoa
will cool it down quickly
and make it ready for sipping.
Ingredients
* 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
* 3/4 cup sugar
* 1 pinch salt
* 1/3 cup boiling water
* 3-1/2 cups milk
* 3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
* 1/2 cup half-and-half
Cooking Instructions
1. Combine the cocoa, sugar and salt in a saucepan.
Blend in the boiling water.
Bring this mixture to an easy boil while you stir.
Simmer and stir for about 2 minutes.
Watch that it doesn't scorch.
2. Stir in milk and heat until very hot (do not boil!)
Remove from heat and add vanilla.
Divide between four mugs.
Add the cream to the mugs of cocoa
to cool it to drinking temperature.
Makes 4 servings
Toddler Activities:
Pinecone Bird Feeders
What you need:
*large pinecones
*peanutbutter
*plastic knife
*paper plate or tin pan
*birdseed
*string/twine/yarn
Assembly
Each child should have a pinecone
and a plastic knife.
Spread peanut butter on to pinecones.
Place birdseed on plate.
Let the child roll
the pinecone in birdseed
until covered.
Tie a ribbon or piece of yarn around the top.
Hang outside and watch the birds feast!
Tip: Tying the yarn between
two of the rows of scales is best,
as a quick tug will make it
tight so that even the
squirrels won’t be able
to pull it down!
Pre-School Activities:
3D Christmas Trees
Supplies Needed:
green poster board
scissors
glitter glue, sequins, and/or stickers for decorating
Cut two identical triangles
from green poster board.
Make a cut in one triangle
from the top toward the center
and in the other triangle
from the bottom toward the top.
To prepare the tree,
decorate one side of each triangle
with glitter glue,
sequins, and or stickers.
Allow the triangles to dry.
Once dry, decorate the other sides
of the triangles
in the same way.
Next slide the triangle
that was cut from the bottom
onto the other triangle
to make the tree self standing.
School Age Activities:
CRAFT MATERIALS:
Tape measure
1/2 yard fleece fabric
Scissors
Needle and thread
Buttons, appliqués, or felt pieces for decoration
1 yard decorative cord
1. Measure childs head with tape measure.
Cut a piece of fleece that's
16 inches wide and as long
as the measurement you took plus 2 inches.
2. Fold the fleece in half,
right side in so the 16-inch edges match up.
Sew a 1/2-inch-wide seam
along this edge, stopping
5 inches from the bottom.
Just below the last stitch,
make a 1/2-inch cut in from the side.
Turn the material right side out.
Now sew a seam along the last
5 inches of unsewn fleece.
3. Roll the bottom of the hat up two turns,
so the cuff conceals the bottom
part of the seam.
To keep the cuff from unrolling,
sew on a decorative button,
an appliqué, or a felt cutout.
4. Finally, gather the top 3 inches
of the hat and tie
a colorful cord around it.
