We offer two heterogeneously grouped classrooms for children 2.9 to 6
years old. We believe this approach to grouping best nurtures children’s
developmental needs, promoting mentor and leadership opportunities for the older
preschoolers and faster learning for the younger preschoolers.
Classroom
activities are comprised of child directed time, target groups, large and small
group work and outside play. Our learning centers include but are not limited to
building, dramatic play, art, science, listening centers and literacy corners.
Children are grouped according to developmental levels for target group times,
where more focused teacher directed activities take place. To prepare our
preschoolers for the challenges of kindergarten, all Girls Club preschool
classrooms use the Work Sampling Assessment tool which systematically documents
children’s skills, knowledge, behavior and academic accomplishments. Curriculum
is adjusted and adapted to ensure all cognitive domains are addressed.
These
programs are licensed for up to 20 children with 3 teachers.
